New and, sometimes, uncomfortable sensations are a normal part of pregnancy. Muscle pain, leg cramping, headaches, and digestive issues are all common in the first part of pregnancy and usually pass fairly quickly. Remaining active during your pregnancy and if possible, massage and physical therapy can be helpful for relieving muscle pains. Stomach cramping and feelings of heartburn, and even some dull pains in your lower abdomen are also a common experience of early pregnancy as your uterus expands to accommodate your growing baby. Baths, gentle exercise and hot water bottles can help with cramping.

A few people have more serious abdominal pain in early pregnancy that is related to the pregnancy growing outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy). Call your health care provider right away if you suspect this serious condition.
