You should plan to see your physician within 4-6 weeks after the birth. If you have been cared for by a midwife, you will have a few regularly scheduled visits after the birth. Regardless of the care provider, they will assess your physical, emotional, and psychological well-being and answer any questions you have. If you have physical or emotional well-being issues before your scheduled appointment, please call your health care provider immediately.
If you have had a Cesarean birth, your health care provider may want to see you earlier than 4-6 weeks. They will want to check on your abdominal pain and incision.
