It is normal to have bleeding and discharge from your birth canal/vagina for a few weeks following birth. This discharge is called "lochia" and will change in colour from bright to dark red, to pinkish or brownish, then to yellowish white over time and should stop between ten days to a few weeks following birth. It is important to know when bleeding is too much or indicates a problem so that you can seek help from your healthcare provider.
