Contraception

To avoid another pregnancy, even shortly after giving birth (and even if breastfeeding), you must use birth control every time you are having heterosexual intercourse. There are several contraceptive options that are safe to use while breastfeeding including the progestin-only birth control pills, barrier methods such as condoms (diaphragms need to be refitted after having a baby), and male or female sterilization (vasectomy and tubal ligation), among others.
